Mindfullness and Eating

So, how do you eat mindfully?

Now that we have talked about the process of mindfulness, let’s look at how it can apply to eating. For most of you on this site, food plays a big role in your life, stirring up a lot of emotions!

Eating in a mindful way can teach you to manage those feelings while beginning to enjoy food again.

How can you do this?

Use all your senses when approaching food. Enjoy the color of your food, smell it, listen to the sounds while you chew. Focus on each aspect of your meal as you eat. You will begin to slow down and enjoy the taste. Slowing down helps you listen to your body and what it has to say. Are you hungry? Are you full? This way, you can honor and respect what your body needs in a healthy, balanced way.

Being mindful of the eating process and aware of your body’s signals helps you reconnect with yourself and trust your body again. It allows you to eat in a healthy and intuitive manner free from disordered thoughts and restrictive patterns.

Our bodies are smart. They tell us when and what they need and will not deceive us they way our eating disordered thoughts can.

Remember: Eat mindfully. You can not drive a car without gas. Food is your body’s fuel it needs to survive and thrive. Enjoy and embrace the process.
