doing what feels good…

08.31.09

Recovery is tough work. It takes  a great deal of time, energy and determination. In any recovery and any life, there comes a time when things get tough, obstacles thrown in your path or unexpected trials and tribulations. It is hard enough to deal with tough times on an ordinary day, but dealing with difficulties AND recovery can feel overwhelming. So, what to do? What tools can you pull from your toolbox?

One of the best answers may be the most simple. Do what feels right. Ask yourself what you need and honor those needs. Are you hungry? Tired? Do you want to rest? Do you want to talk with a friend? Reflect on what you need and do yoru best to honor it. It is excellent practice for becoming in touch with your body and inner self.

Binge Eating Disorder Intensive Weekend Workshop- Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Bodywise Binge Eating Recovery Program, part of The Center for Eating Disorders in Ann Arbor MI, would like to announce the Fall 2009 Bodywise Intensive, a 2 1/2 day program November 13-15,  that offers a powerful jumpstart for recovery from Binge Eating Disorder. The BW Intensive provides a supportive environment for binge eaters to explore reasons for the development of BED in their lives, and define a path for their recovery. By understanding the causes and uses of binge eating in their lives, how to recognize and manage binge triggers, and learn skills for intuitive eating and movement, participants will feel supported by each other, and better able to progress in their recovery work.  Participants will explore their “diet mythology” and body image issues,  and learn skills for mindful eating and movement that will fundamentally change their relationship with food and weight. This Intensive is appropriate for people already in therapy for BED, and those wanting to begin the process. Using discussion, writing, experiential exercises, mindful movement and group eating exercises, the BW Intensive provides a powerful opportunity for change in a safe environment. The BW Intensive will be facilitated by Amy Pershing LMSW, Director of the Bodywise Program and Clinical Director of The Center for Eating Disorders in Ann Arbor, and Robin Okun, ACSW, Founder of Mindful Movement and Movement Specialist at The Center. The Intensive will be held in Ann Arbor and lodging is available on site; please call (734) 668–8585 or visit our websites for more information (www.stopcompulsiveeating.com and center4ed.org).”
