Weight Grades on Report Cards
07.05.11
Petition to Stop the Dangerous Practice of Weight Grades on Report Cards: Many states are now sending “weight grades” and BMI scores home on students’ report cards. Although it is important to ensure the health of kids, sending messages evaluating kids based on weight only perpetuates disordered eating and undue emphasis on body shape and size. Young people are particularly vulnerable to developing eating disorders and disordered eating (as well as negative self-esteem, bullying, and poor body image), which is why this practice can be so dangerous! Educating about health is important, grading on their bodies kids is not!
Please join us in putting a stop to this misguided practice - sign the petition by going to http://www.change.org/petitions/stop-dangerous-practice-of-weight-grades-on-report-cards-4.
